The central exhibition of Art Weekend Budapest will be open to visitors between November 28, 2025, and January 9, 2026.\n\nOpening: November 27, 7 p.m. \nLocation: Brody House (Brody S\u00e1ndor u. 10, 1088 Budapest)\nOpening hours: Monday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brody House and the exhibition will be closed from December 24 to 26. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>

The exhibition invites us to recognize that visibility is a temporary privilege, while opacity,\u00a0 like a space beyond frosted glass, can be a zone of protection and of preserving one\u2019s own narrative. <\/span><\/p>

Beginning with the STRABAG ART Collection and expanded with invited artists, this selection - presented as the central exhibition of Art Weekend Budapest (AWB) - reinterprets this year\u2019s theme, Seeing and Being Seen, through the Martinican writer \u00c9douard Glissant\u2019s concept of the \u201cright to opacity.\u201d According to Glissant, truly respecting the other does not lie in fully understanding them, but in acknowledging their right to remain concealed.<\/span><\/p>

The works on view unfold within transitional visual and conceptual terrains, where forms hover at the edge of recognizability and where blurring, distortion, fragmentation and dissolving narratives create a kind of frosted-glass perception. The viewer\u2019s focus constantly slips: meaning flashes up and sinks back into obscurity; the image reveals and hides itself at the same time. Encountering these works is thus not an act of clear seeing, but a productive acceptance of uncertainty.<\/span><\/p>

The selection moves along the border zones of how bodies, identities, spaces and stories can be represented; inviting visitors to retain their own \u201cright to opacity\u201d as they approach the works. The aim is not to erase meaning but to show how, in contemporary art, those moments operate where recognition is incomplete and understanding remains unsettled.<\/span><\/p>

The visual and conceptual tensions unfolding between the works rethink the relationships between vision, visibility, and concealment\u2014pointing out that visibility is a privilege, while opacity can be a space for security, autonomy, and freedom.<\/span><\/p>
